Two dead, five injured in crash on Accra–Cape Coast Highway

Two people have been confirmed dead and five others injured following a fatal road accident at Third Ridge Junction on the Accra–Cape Coast Highway. The incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, involving a Toyota Corolla with registration number GW-5769-16 and a HOWO tipper truck with registration number GN-1497-22. According to the Ghana National Fire Service, personnel from the Cape Coast Regional Headquarters responded promptly after receiving a distress call. Upon arrival, they found the driver of the Toyota Corolla trapped behind the steering wheel. The victim was rescued and rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead. Eyewitnesses indicated that the Corolla was travelling from Cape Coast towards Accra when the driver slowed down after noticing a pick-up vehicle dangerously overtaking and attempting to move into the lane of an oncoming tipper truck. In an effort to avoid a head-on collision with the pick-up, the tipper truck driver reportedly swerved off the road. However, while trying to regain control and return to his lane, the truck crashed into the Corolla. All victims were transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for treatment. Authorities have yet to provide updates on the condition of the injured, while investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing.
